AFL Football



Halls Head College has a developing high level AFL Sports Academy and is one of the few schools partnered with Peel Thunder Football Club. This program provides a unique opportunity for students to develop their AFL knowledge, skills and ability to the high standards required of future WAFL footballers as well as promoting and building academic achievement. Not only is the program aimed at developing academic and sporting excellence, but providing growth for students to become strong role models within their school and community as well as developing their leadership capabilities.

This program includes;

  • 2 hours per week developing and refining their skills and game sense within football

  • 1  health lesson focusing on creating a holistic athlete

  • 1 Physical Education lesson

  • Targeted academic curriculum leading into a Certificate II in Sport and Recreation

  • Opportunities to compete in intra and interschool competitions within the Peel district

  • Opportunities to compete in School Sport Western Australia competitions at Zone, Region and State level.

  • Fitness assessment and individual tailored feedback

  • Strength and conditioning Programs

  • Exposure to elite athletes, coaches and facilities in association with Peel Thunder and the WAFC

Partnership with Peel Thunder Football Club

The AFL Sports Academy has a newly established partnership with the Peel Thunder Football Club, which provides access to additional resources, support and the potential for clinics and exposure to elite athletes and facilities. This also opens the opportunity for students to get exposure and become prospective Peel thunder futures players.

WAFC Endorsement

Halls Head College and the AFL Sports Academy is currently in the process of becoming an endorsed program with the WAFC with hopes to be endorsed for 2022 and onwards. This would enable the program to further develop the students’ AFL skills, knowledge and ability as well as providing more opportunities, more resources and more in depth learning.

Enrolment and Trials

Students who wish to apply for this competitive program will need to identify their interest when completing the school application or contact the school to express interest in trialling for the AFL Sports Academy. In order to be selected in the AFL program students will need to take part in a AFL trial in Year 6 or if year 7 – 10, organize a special trial.
