Mathematics

 

In our Mathematics Learning Area we develop our students’ understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning skills.  We cater for differing ability levels with teaching and learning adjustments and interventions throughout all years.  Our Academic Extension Academy also ensures that our most able are suitably challenged to enable every student to achieve their personal best

In Years 7 -9 Our students will hone their ability to problem solve and think critically and creatively in the following content areas: Number and Algebra; Probability and Statistics and Measurement and Space.

In Years 10 Our students in Year 10 are grouped in one of  three distinct courses.  This is to ensure that they have the required skills to achieve success in the variety of Senior School pathways available to them.  This, for many will align their to chosen career pathways or will ensure that core maths understandings for life are developed in all.

 

Course 1 (Academic Extension) – for students aiming for Mathematical Methods or Specialist Maths in Yr 11 and 12. This is a rigorous course that will cover the Year 10 core curriculum for Maths as well as the Year 10 Advanced Maths curriculum. This course includes semester examinations.

Course 2 – for students aiming for Mathematical Applications in Yr 11 and 12. This course covers the Year 10 core Maths curriculum with an emphasis on Statistics. This course includes semester examinations.

Course 3 – for students aiming for Essential and Foundation Maths in Yr 11 and 12. This course is designed to develop more life skills and to prepare students for OLNA. It also focuses on application and project work.
